All of this drilling in ANWR (Artic National Wildlife Reserve) business has me skeeved. There is absolutely no sense whatsoever in drilling Alaska’s nature reserve. I am going to tell you exactly why- and I’m not even going to mention potential ecological ramifications, because I can win my case without that crunchy granola stuff.

To begin with, ANWR really doesn’t have all that much oil there. The US goes through a lot of oil every year and ANWR would provide an amount that would truly be insufficient to justify the cost of the pipes and drilling. You need more of a projected gain. It just ain’t there people! We would have oil for 2 to 3 years, if we were lucky, and it would take longer than that for the stuff to get from approval to actual oil available for use.

This is going to use up too many financial resources, and then we will use up the oil and be back where we started, only broke and out of options. We need to spend that money developing alternate means of energy. Water, wind and other options need to be explored. Every day there are people coming up with new ideas on how to make the world more energy efficient. These ideas could be put into place. Yes, it is expensive. Yes, it is time consuming. But so is drilling in ANWR. If we used the resources they want to use for this project and directed it toward putting new technology in place we would be ahead of the game when the ANWR supplies and our good trade standing with oil producing countries runs out, which I really think it will. Until America learns to think outside the box and stops relying so much on oil, we will continue to have this problem. It’s a matter of adaptation for the long term good. Why can’t people figure this out?
