So, These Verbal Skills Are A Good Thing, Right?

Excuse Me
The other day Jonas and I were walking into the commissary when he belched. I told him that he should say excuse me when he did that, and got no reply. That night Jonas had a drink and burped. Suddenly he exclaimed, “Me See!” I was so excited! He got lots of praise for being so polite. Now he forces himself to burp several times a day just so he can shout, “me see!” If I don’t happen to hear him he will yell, “ME SEE! ME SEE! ME SEE!” until I acknowledge it and tell him what a great kid he is.

The Crane

Jonas is enamored with the Thomas the Tank Engine crane. They sell Cranky the Crane at Barnes & Noble and it has been his goal to come home with it for over a month now. It wouldn’t be such a big deal, but Cranky costs fifty bucks at the book store. One day he ran into the children’s section and went directly to his crane. He picked it up, gave me a big smile and said, “Ready, ready, let’s go!” Nice try, kiddo.

The F-word

I was strapping Jonas into his carseat last night and suddenly Jonas said, with much earnest, “fuck!” I nearly hit my head on the door frame. Where did he hear that?

“What?”

“Fuck, fuck, fuuuuck!” At this point he leaned over and grabbed his frog hat.

“Oh!!! Frog!” Jonas smiled.

“Fuck!”

“You want to wear your frog hat.”

“Yeah.”

So I put it on him and got into the car. I was dropping him off at a friend’s house for the evening so I could go help with the 8 to 11 year old girls at church. As we drove I said, “Say frog.”

“Fuck.”

“Say guh.”

“Guk.”

“The G says guh, the G says guh, every letter makes a sound the G says Guh!”

“Guh.”

“Good now say Fraaaaaaaah-Guh.”

“Fuuuuuuuuuck.”

At this point I’m about to drive off the road. Here I am, about to drop him off at a friend’s house and he is spouting profanity. When we arrived frog was still the F-word. When I explained to my friend, she had a good laugh.
