I Feel Like I Hugged A Cactus

I have at least fifty millimeter long cactus spikes stuck into various parts of my body. I was driving on base today when I saw a vacant home that had a large, rotting, wooden pot out front with three varieties of cacti and succulents inside. I got out of the car to investigate and the neighbors said to go ahead and take the plants, so off I scampered to fetch a trowel and my gardening gloves. I was back in minutes.

The largest plant had many babies so I pulled each of those out individually. They are pretty big for babies, so I saved them all and plan to sell them at the rummage sale I will be having next weekend. The big mama cactus thing is huge. I have an entire pot of these, and this single one is nearly the size of my entire pot. I am going to pot her all by herself. She will look very cool.

The other cactus I put into a pot immediately. It is the one I got all the stickers from. The stickers don’t look painful, they actually appear to be little fuzzy dots. Little, annoying, fuzzy dots that get into your clothes and skin and never die. Nevertheless, a nifty looking plant. From the size of the plants, they would have both been about twenty-five dollar plants had I purchased them from a nursery, so I am pleased with my find, even though I want to rip my skin off.

Once I got those plants into my car I realized I was right down the street from where I friend of mine used to live, so I headed over there and dug up all of her geraniums and some of her mums. Now my front garden area is starting to get filled in a bit. We have found out from housing that we will be in this townhouse for quite awhile, so I figured I would do a bit to make the front look more inviting. Yesterday I transplanted a huge fern from another inactive house. So far, both transplanting adventures have left me itching. Every scratch or poke I have gotten has caused a small rash all over my arms and hands. I took some Claritin, so perhaps that will help.

I will have to take a few pictures of these new finds when they are all happily potted and I get my act together enough to download the two full memory cards I have sitting in my camera bag.

I would have done that this evening, but I was occupied sitting on the couch pulling microscopic barbs out of my skin with a tweezer.
