I Have The Best News!

Filed in: Artsy-Fartsy Scrapbooking Stuff, Me

I got some great news a few days ago! I have been chosen to be a part of the ScrapVillage design team. Scrap Village is a wonderful online scrapbook community affiliated with Jordan Paper Arts. It has an amazing design team with many frequently heard names and many Hall of Fame winners. In other words- I’m floored, honored and tickled PINK that they’ve asked me to become one of their City Planners! In my new position I will get to contribute scrapbook pages and paper craft projects to their features, and I get to write a few articles for their newsletters! I love to write, so being chosen to be a part of this for both my artistic and writing talents puts me right up on cloud nine!

The first feature that I’m a part of has already come out, so go ahead and click to see!

On a down note, I was kicked off of Survivor. However, things got a bit ugly over there after I left; so I was glad to have been eliminated, and not feeling too badly about it since I was eliminated because I was the biggest threat. I took losing as a big compliment. I am in two other contests right now online as well. One is a participation based contest that I have a pretty good chance of winning (I’ve been participating my little heart out!) And the other is a monthly layout contest that I have just as good a shot at as the next guy, so there’s hope there too! I will find out about both of them Around October 1st.

Miss Boobie

Filed in: Monkey, my side

Jonas has started school, and is loving it. He wants to tell everyone he talks to about his teachers, so in the past few days I’ve heard this quite a few times:

“I have school now! My teachers are Miss Carla and Miss Boobie!”

This statement is always followed by confused silence. Jonas is clearly still in speech for a reason. I’m just wondering if he has called his preschool teacher, Miss Barbara, Miss Boobie to her face yet. I’m tempted to volunteer more hours in the classroom just so I can be the fly on the wall that gets to witness it.

A Nocturnal Visitor

Filed in: Man of the House, Me

I have become a very light sleeper. All night long I am vaguely aware of my subconscious processing all of the little noises in my house and filtering them into different files labeled Keep Sleeping, Maybe You Should Check On That, and Run For Your Life. Almost all sounds fall into the first two categories, and with the kids being old enough to hop out of their beds and find me if they need me, I don’t get out of bed for much. Last night was the exception.

It is three am, and I am sleeping lightly, only a little bit aware of what’s going on. I heard the trash cans being put away outside. Normal. I heard Chris banging around in the kitchen doing dishes. Normal, and appreciated. Usually the sounds of nocturnal cleaning give me very pleasant dreams. Then I heard a voice. One of Chris’ work buddies, in for a late night snack? Abnormal, but not bad. Wait, wait- that’s a woman’s voice. There’s a chick out there!

My feet hit the floor before I was even awake. I stumbled into the kitchen to find there was indeed a chick in my house in the wee hours of the morning. It was a maintenance lady responding to Chris’ earlier phone call he placed when, apparently, he turned on the kitchen light and a shower of sparks rained down.

Now, I would never even consider than Chris had brought a woman home to cheat on me; it’s not in his character. But I had to laugh at how quickly the sound of a strange woman’s voice raised my internal alarm and woke me up!

Ready For The Good That Is To Come

Filed in: Stuff 'n Nonsense, Monkey

After downing massive amounts of Claritan, I feel like a new woman! My allergies here just keep getting worse. What a joy! The great thing is, we won’t be stationed here forever. Someday we’ll be sent to exotic places like Iceland or Milwaukee and I can work on becoming allergic to those places. Such is life.

Jonas is starting school next week! He will be in preschool four days a week all afternoon, and speech will be starting up again for two mornings a week. I couldn’t be happier for him or for myself! The poor guy is bored to tears, and he gets curiously destructive when he’s bored. “What will happen if I swing from the curtains?” “How high can I fling a bowl of pasta?” I am eager for him to start performing these experiments somewhere other than my house.

Of course, I am totally stoked to be getting the afternoon to myself! Maggie still naps in the afternoons, and since her big brother won’t be around to poke her in the cheek and tell her to wake up, she may actually get some rest, and I may actually be able to spend quality, uninterrupted time scrubbing my floor or creating in my scrapbook room!

So, in short, I’m scrapping like crazy, and looking so forward to the crazy holiday seasons and to Jonas being able to spread his wings and explore the world. He is so ready. I’m so ready.

Surviving

Filed in: Monkey, Magpie, Artsy-Fartsy Scrapbooking Stuff

HI there! I survived my first week in survivor, barely. I have no idea how long I’m going to last there. Half the people are voting off those with the worst scrapbook pages, and half are voting off the biggest threats. Here is my layout of the week:

I also made a card for the immunity challenge, which I didn’t win, but I submitted it for publication and Paper Arts magazine picked it up- so it couldn’t have been that bad, ha!

As for me, I have entered two more scrap contests, so I am basically breathing scrapbooking supplies. I am also fighting a strange illness that is either allergies or a very indecisive head cold. Last night, my eyes watered so much I looked positively distraught. I woke up with my eyes nearly swollen shut this morning. Come noon, I was nearly back to normal- only the occasional twenty minute bout of sniffles during which I scramble madly to locate my box of tissues under all of the scrapbook supplies.

Funny aside? I bought tissues with Cars characters on them- Jonas was so stoked when he saw them that he ripped open the box. Apparently he thought there were Cars toys inside; he was sorely disappointed with the Kleenex.

I Feel Lucky. . .I Hope

Filed in: Stuff 'n Nonsense, Artsy-Fartsy Scrapbooking Stuff, Me

I have decided to subject myself to torture. I have voluntarily chosen to shred my nerves and participate in an activity that has the power to create emotional distress not unlike that of labor. I’ve entered a scrapbooking contest.

My friend Amber is big into scrap contests, and she put the idea in my head. Therefore all stress will be blamed on her, ya up for that Amber? See, Amber is a WINNAH! She enters these contests and has a habit of coming out on top and walking away with the prize package. I enter them, pace the soles off my shoes, start dreaming only of patterned paper and adhesive, and begin to second guess every creative thing I do. Pretty, it’s not.

The contest I entered is at a relatively new site called Memories From Scrap. The game is Scrap Survivor, just like the crazy television show legions of people are obsessed with. It functions on the same premise. I entered a layout and was chosen to play on one of the teams. Now, every Monday a challenge will be issued and I have to have my scrap project up in the gallery by Friday, Midnight. Then we spend the weekend voting each other off. Brutal, no? A challenge is issued every Wednesday that is due Friday mornings. The people running the site will vote on those and the winner gains immunity from that week’s final cut.

I now have two things to agonize and obsess over each week until I get booted off or win (I’m hoping for the latter). I am also hoping that if I can’t win, may I stick around long enough to be spared the icky feeling that would come from being kicked off first. Also, with two scrap challenges a week- there’s gonna be a lot of work getting done in my scrapbooks! So much, in fact, that if I make it a month or two, I will get to treat myself to a new album. So there’s motivation!

Because of all of this, you guys can expect a lot of scrappy posts for the next little bit. To begin with- here is the layout that got me into the game: Happy Bum! The challenge for this layout what that it had to focus on journaling. Since I’m rather verbose, it wasn’t too tough ha!

The journaling is taken directly frommy blog, it’s from the entries talking about Maggie’s switch to cloth.
