More Scrappy Goodness

Filed in: Stuff 'n Nonsense, Artsy-Fartsy Scrapbooking Stuff

I had to take a small break with the scrappy goodness because my camera was back in for repairs, yet again. However, Best Buy FINALLY sucked it up, acknowledged that I bought a lemon, and replaced my digital rebel for me! So I’m back in action!

I went a little crazy yesterday, scrapping pretty much all day and well into the night. These three layouts are the result. (Um, and a really messy house that I need to go remedy now!) Everything shown here is from a kit from Scrappy Giraffe Kits- total awesomeness! I love designing for them! The neat thing about being a designer is that sometimes you are given products that you would never choose for yourself in a store- so you really have to stretch yourself to use them. It can end up making you totally flop a few pages- or you can really bring yourself to a new level, trying out new things and exploring your creativity. This kit made me stretch- but I’m thrilled with the results! You can click on the images to make them larger.

Design Team Call

Filed in: Artsy-Fartsy Scrapbooking Stuff

Once again I am at the end of another design team call for the Home Scrap Club at www.myscrapbooknook.com. I’ve been pouring over applications for days now, and I am now completely torn as to who to choose for the team. And- there’s still twenty-four hours left to apply- and it’s the last twenty four hours when you really start to get piles of applicants!

If you’re interested, do check it out here.

Thanks.

My Boobs Don’t Grow Out Of My Neck. I’m So Bummed.

Filed in: Me

Chris has gone back to work, back on the 12 hour shifts and after a month of blissful double parenting, I’ve been thrown back into single parent mode, which meant that by the time Chris arrived home at 7:30 last night I had to leave the house.

I had been wanting to pick up some more cheap notebooks to cover so I headed to Target where I also thought I’d do some summer clothes shopping. A look that I have never before embraced, but which I have become rather fond of, is the Jennifer Lopez baby doll dress over jeans look. Yeah, it’s a little weird- but it’s very comfortable, modest, and you can be as bloated as a whale and no one’s going to notice. So you look like a 1970’s love child- nothing wrong with that. I usually walk around with paint smears on my face and adhesive covered hands- a little boho look isn’t going to hurt me.

I was shocked by the awesome goodies I was finding! Wild prints, funky patterns, breezy material and all at low, low el-cheap-o target prices. With my arms loaded I arrived at the dressing room and began to strip. I pulled the first brown and green number over my head. I look AWESOME in brown. This had to be a winner. I looked at myself in the mirror. The seam between the top and skirt part of the dress hit me mid breast. I tried to eek it down, thinking maybe this was meant to be low cut- but it wouldn’t budge. Those pesky shoulders of mine were in the way. Ok- one poorly sewn dress tossed in the corner, upward and onward. I grabbed a cheery red floral dress of similar style. Red looks great on me, I thought. I’ll look hot, man, HOT! I pulled it over my head. The seam was about three inches above my nipples. Since the dress was sewn to taper in at the waist- I know this can’t be right. Another dress into the corner.

This time I reach for a green and yellow peasant top. I look ok in green and yellow. Passable. I yank it over my now very messy hair. The seam is, once again, right accross my chest. However, this has a stretchy neck. I yank it down so the seam is below the cleavage. It totally works. . .except for the fact that about 90% of my chest is now on display. I considered a white tank top underneath- but for a shirt that was merely passable- SO NOT WORTH IT. Into the growing pile in the corner.

Giving up on tops all together, I try a blue and brown polka dot skirt. It hangs like a bag and after hiking it up and considering hemming it about 4 inches, I realize that if my legs were about a foot longer- this skirt would look GREAT. However, I’m not expecting a growth spurt anytime soon, so the skirt was added to the reject pile as well.

It should be stated that I am not a misproportioned person. Oh, I’m a little short waisted, yes, but seriously. To fit these clothes I’d have to be a stork with my boobs growing out of my neck. Nobody looks like that.

Birthday Boy

Filed in: Monkey

Jonas turned five on Monday. FIVE. That’s a big kid going to real school age. Chris and I are asking each other how this happened. Part of me feels like we’ve had Jonas forever- the other part is feeling like we’re hurtling into the future at warp speed with no braking system or safety net. Jonas turning five also means that Maggie is now 2.5 since my kid’s are exactly 6 months apart to the day. No more babies at this house- both kids are- well, KIDS.

Jonas wanted to have a Diego birthday party, so we invited his entire preschool class and several church friends- about 1/3rd of whom actually RSVPed. Out of the total 25 invites I sent out a whopping 3 invitees actually shoed up- which I think is pretty pathetic and rude. How hard is it to RSVP? It doesn’t bug me if you can’t make it, but it bugs me to have a goodie bag for your child and no attendee. Our society is so plagued with rudeness. RSVP- it translates to RESPOND PLEASE. Not respond if you’re coming or respond if you’re not coming (that’s regrets only) it means “I’m nice enough to include you in the fun- be nice enough to let me know if I should prepare to be your hostess”. Seriously. Grrr. It would burn me up less if it weren’t the 2nd year in a row that this has happened.

On top of that- the weather went from 90 degrees in the shade for a week straight to windy and bitter on the day of his party. Every activity we had planned was a water activity. Since there were so few children, we just stuck to cake, presents and harassing the cats. It was a very short celebration- but Jonas was happy with it.

The other special thing Jonas has been begging to do is to eat his birthday dinner at Chevy’s because the waitstaff sings to the birthday boy and gives him a huge sombrero. Jonas really wanted the hat. So we packed it up and took him to eat Mexican food. He was totally adorable! I’ll let the pics do the talking.
