My Little Brother Just Got His Mission Call!
Bernie is going to be serving in Melbourne Australia for two years!
I’m so excited! He leaves on September 26th!
For those of you who are totally unfamiliar with what I’m talking about- young people in our church have the opportunity to serve full time missions when they are 19, as long as they have upheld certain moral codes (basically being a superb kid- no drinking, being chaste, etc) and have a testimony of the gospel and a desire to serve. Bernie will be teaching the gospel to those interested in our church and serving the people in the area. These missionaries pay their own way- all of their work is on a volunteer basis. We belong to The Church of Jesus Chris of Latter Day Saints.
I’m SO EXCITED for him! This does mean that my parents will now have all three of their children in different countries though - ha!

very cool! Congratulations Bernie. My adopted aunt and uncle are serving there now. Actually, Uncle David returned to the very same ward where he’d served thirty-someodd years earlier!

That’s cool Lou. I’m sure he will love Melbourne. It;s a great place for somone his age to explore.

Hi Lou! I also stumbled upon your blog when I was looking for explosion box instructions. I’m also LDS and am going to Melbourne for my brothers wedding in March. I may run into your brother on one of my Sunday’s there. I am the only member in my “growing up” family.
I also read your entry about being “almost pregnant” - thank you for sharing. It brought back memories and I think I need to start journalling regularly.
