Questions That Define Us

Not much time today but I just wanted to ask:

When you are driving and you hear sirens and see flashing lights is your thought process more along the lines of

A) I need to move to the right of the road and get out of the way
B) Oh crap! What did I do?

Really, I want to know your answer. I answer B, but everyone I’ve asked answers A. I think I have an overactive guilt button.

  1. Hello, I would have to go with choice A. I am guilty of over confidence that no cop will get me as I follow the rules. Until one day I heard a siren, slowed down and pulled to the right, but didnt see the emergency vehicle pass me by. That’s when I thought to look in the rear view mirror and saw the cop car. No ticket but just a warning to stop longer at the stop sigh. Phew!!!

  2. That’s so funny…I immediately think “oh crap” and look at the speedometer to see if I am speeding, so B is my answer too! The only time that I don’t think that is if I have been sitting at a stop light for a bit when I hear the sirens. It can’t possibly be me if my car isn’t moving, right??

  3. I have to say A. pull over and get out of the way. Only because a couple of years ago I got pulled over for speeding 3 times in one week, twice with in 24 hours of eachother. So now I totally freak when I see any car with lights on the top and drive the speed limit.

  4. Although I am definitely guilt laden, there are so many sirens going off all the time here in Florida that I have begun to think that it is NOT me if I hear one. I just think about pulling over and getting out of the way. . .

  6. For me, the answer would be BOTH! First, I look around and try to find it. And breathe a sigh of relief when I see that it’s not directly behind me. But, often, that’s my first thought.

Oh, and if I pass a cop going the other way….I ALWAYS look to see if he turns around to “get me” even if I’m going 25mph! :o

  7. I pick choice C (the one you neglected to mention): I worry about the emergency situation. I’m always hoping no one is hurt.

  8. I am B. B all the way! Once I do a scan of my speed, seatbelt, etc. I start planning my route to get pulled over. ;)

  12. I’m definitely an A, although I think of myself as having an “overactive guilt button”.
