Hit & Run: That Concludes Our NaBloPoMo!

starfishmaggie1

Oy Vey.

What a day.

I went to Sherwin Williams today. It is the only place locally where you can get a gallon of paint to match the base housing paint. I am going to be painting my house from the waist down tomorrow. Maggie has spent the past six months going all Jackson Pollack on the walls and it is time to return them to their plain old cream color. I think she’s mostly over the color all over the walls phase. At any rate the novelty seems to hav worn off.

Sherwin Williams is located in the seedy part of Fairfield. It is not a place I go a lot and I usually go with a friend just to make myself feel better. This time it was just the kids and me. On the way home I stopped behind a few cars at a red light. I glanced in the rearview mirror and saw an old boat of a beater car speeding at my stationary tail. It did not slow down or seem to notice that there was a line of cars stopped until the very last second and I knew that this rust bucket was going to rear end me. My eyes were wide in panic, my foot heavy on the brakes so I didn’t go crashing into the cars in front of me, and muscles that I didn’t know I had tightened in anticipation.

The junker’s tires screached for a good ten feet as it tried to stop. I sat in horrified silence while my brain said, “AHHGGGGGGG!” Somehow, the brakes worked and their car gave mine only the lightest tap of a hit. And then the extremely ghetto couple in the old car laughed at me and sped away without stopping to asses for damage. I. Kid. You. Not.

I sat there, stunned, momentarily blocking traffic while my body began to unclench. I’d been having a moderate fiboromyalgia flare. I hadn’t been feeling great, but I was managing. As my body slowly unclenched, this catapulted me into a pain level so high I’ve been nauseated from the pain. Seriously.

The car has no damage, thankfully. The kids had no idea that we were in an accident.

Now, cross your finger that i win something from NaBloPOMo! If I can’t have Kerflop’s web redesign, I’m hoping for an itunes gift card. Although I will of course, accept any prize and be totally stoked.

  1. That happened to me once. Only it wasn’t a ghetto car or couple. It was a perfectly normal middle class mom in a mini van. She hit me, I turned around in my seat and looked at her and she just kicked into reverse, changed lanes and was gone before I could even compose my thoughts.

I’m glad your car is okay, but I’m so sorry about the pain your in because of it. I hope you get to feeling better quickly.

I’ve enjoyed having you post every day this month!

  2. Oh man . . . Leah, that just SUCKS!!! I’m so glad it wasn’t any worse and that there wasn’t any damage. If you didn’t mention it wasn’t such a great part of town, if I were in your shoes I probably would have chased them down . . . probably not the smartest idea in this day and age.

  5. Hi! I found your blog from the “Sample Blogs” list on the Blogsome homepage and I love, love, LOVE your blog! It’s beautiful! My own blog could use a little love. It looks…bland. Anyway, I am also an LDS mom and the wife of a former Air Force-type guy (yay, civilian life!) and have been enjoying reading through your archives. Btw, your children are beautiful!

  6. ooookay - you need to adopt a HUGE, angry dog - or a huge Swede with sharp teeth. I’m totally up for adoption anytime and I’d gladly swing over to their rust bucket for a few bites of ankles.

Some people should have a new mom to teach them how to BEHAVE! I get so infuriated by ill behaved people, it’s not even funny. (Yes - it is - since it really doesn’t help me, and their behaviour doesn’t improve by the fact that I get mad. I try to laugh - but NOT when there are kids or women with fibro pains involved! *grrrrr*)

  8. You are the second person I know of that got in an accident yesterday! My ex- got t-boned by a stupid teen who didn’t stop at a 4-way stop. I am so glad my little girl wasn’t with him because she would have gotten hurt. People need driving school again! I can’t even imagine the fear that went through your body, I think that even those of us without Fibro would hurt after, I can’t imagine with… Good luk and I hope you are feeling better by now.

  9. It is hard to believe that there are such losers out there sometimes. I’m glad that there was no damage or serious injuries. Hope you’re feeling better now. A gorgeous pic of your dd too, she is just so adorable!

  10. You may have spelled assess incorrectly (as if I am an expert) but they were asses. Love you.
